The red fox Vulpes vulpes is the largest of the true foxes and one of the most widely distributed members of the order Carnivora , being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere from the Arctic Circle to North Africa , North America and Eurasia. It is listed as least concern by the IUCN. Due to its presence in Australia, it is included on the list of the "world's worst invasive species". The red fox originated from smaller-sized ancestors from Eurasia during the Middle Villafranchian period, [4] and colonised North America shortly after the Wisconsin glaciation. Despite its name, the species often produces individuals with other colourings, including leucistic and melanistic individuals. Red foxes are usually together in pairs or small groups consisting of families, such as a mated pair and their young, or a male with several females having kinship ties. The young of the mated pair remain with their parents to assist in caring for new kits. The species has a long history of association with humans, having been extensively hunted as a pest and furbearer for many centuries, as well as being represented in human folklore and mythology. Because of its widespread distribution and large population, the red fox is one of the most important furbearing animals harvested for the fur trade. Domestication of the red fox is also underway in Russia , and has resulted in the domesticated red fox.

In Sibel Hodge's Fashion, Lies and Murder, the first installment in the Amber Fox humorous cozy mystery series, this debut will have you laughing in stitches and strike a pose in your TBR list.

Her first assignment was to plant some cameras in the fashion offices of Umberto Fandango. But things aren't what they seem, when he later turns out missing. It's up for Amber to put the pieces together and get to down more about his life and his fashion career. When she wanted to meet his assistant Heather Brown, she turns up missing and then later dead. While she wanted to best her nemesis DSI Janice Skipper, she tries her best to be ahead of the rest to dodge some goons, get assistance from her cross-dressing father who's going undercover for the Neighborhood Watch, and connect the dots from her current cases to solve this puzzle.

In the end, she learns the hidden truth about Umberto's past and fights for her life to get justice done. For the most part, I read books to be entertained, relax and escape everyday life for a bit. I get a kick out of female characters who are feisty, funny and a bit crazy. Amber Fox, the main character in this series, covers all of those requirements quite well. Amber has been booted from her job as a detective with the police and has taken a new job with her ex-fiance as an insurance investigator.

She has a steady boyfriend but has found herself attracted to her old fiance and is second guessing herself about the relationship with the new guy. The cases she is assigned to investigate for the insurance company run the gamut from allegedly injured on the job and unable to work to a car theft ring that is rumored to be getting ready to torch their warehouse to a fashion designer who gets abducted and possibly murdered in the course of her investigation. Somehow, of course, everything is solved by the end except her relationship woes.

There are a lot of characters in the book, many of them hilarious. While the book may not be considered fine literary fiction it is amusing, funny and a good murder mystery. One person found this helpful. Light Easy Read. This book is silly, light hearted and ridiculous but a fun read with it over the top characters who make you laugh.

The book has a lot of great components to create a fun light hearted mystery. The Amber Fox mysteries are fun slapstick reads that for the most part stand-alone but I suggest starting with the first. Quick fun beach read for those collecting books for the summer. Found the first book free on kindle. I purchased this book several months ago, and didn't remember what it was about. I was pleasantly surprised. Amber Fox, ex-police officer, current insurance investigator, worrying for her ex-fiance Brad , who she may still be in love with, and dating her current boyfriend Romeo , who also happens to be a cop.

If all of that isn't enough to keep you entertained, this isn't the book for you. This was light hearted, funny, kind of goofy, with a silly cast of characters. It was just convoluted enough that I didn't figure out the who done it. Or, maybe I'm just a little dense. This book is along the lines of the Stephanie Plum books, but is still different enough to be entertaining. Not to mention that Amber is not nearly as incompetent as Stephanie. After all, I need to find out if she ever chooses one guy over the other.

This is classic Sibel Hodge. I put most of her books in the "chick-lit" category but they are always something more. They are always funny and have a bumbling, but loveable, female lead. Amber Fox used to be Detective Sergeant until she accidentally shoots her boss, Janice Skipper, in the rear. She is forced to resign and takes a job as an insurance investigator with Hi-Tec, her ex-boyfriend's, Brad, insurance company. She begins investigating fashion designer, Umberto Fandango, by putting "bugs" in his pens.

When Amber realizes the pens aren't working she goes back to replace the pens and stumbles into a possible maybe murder scene. There is blood everywhere and Fandango is missing. So Amber decides she is on the case wanting to beat her former boss to solve the mystery so she can prove herself to get her job back. Along the way, Amber finds herself in some really funny situations.

I mean laugh out loud while your are reading funny. This is what I like about Hodge's writing. There is just something about her writing that always has me in histerics. Some chick lit is just plain boring but not this. The only reason I gave it 4 stars in instead of 5 was that is was a little long but it is still worth the read.

If you haven't read Sibel Hodge, try it I think you might find yourself giggling as you read. See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews. It's great to read of someone else's This is the first book in the Amber Fox Mysteries series. Amber is such a likeable character. Her life is in a bit of a mess to say the least having quite a drastic career change and let's not even talk about her love life!

It's great to read of someone else's life being in more chaos than your own. It certainly makes you more grateful! This however is the perfect holiday read where I could enjoy the story for what it was and not take it to seriously. All in all it makes for an entertaining read as Amber closes in, in solving it and I enjoyed being on the ride with her. Fashion, Lies and Murder is perfect for readers who crave all the elements of a crime story but in a more fun and entertaining way. Definitely one to take with you when you go on your jollies this year.

A fun filled and action packed read that will keep you hooked throughout. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. Verified Purchase. This is the funniest book I've ever read by any author. A pair of hard-nut thugs with the unlikely names of Sally and Tracy often make appearances, and generally regret it.
